Tell us about your journey as a recruiter
I started in recruitment in 2010 following a 6 year career in the car industry. Just like any mid-twenty year old car salesman, I thought I could do anything so I was applying for Marketing Manager roles (I had no marketing degree nor any marketing experience). The recruiter I met asked me if I’d ever thought of recruitment and very soon after that question I started my first recruitment role with Marks Sattin.I’ve loved this career because of the complexity and variety it offers. It requires proactivity, influencing, listening and relationship building. It’s a career that offers amazing earning potential and it’s one that has offerred me the chance to start my own company.
What changes do you see happening in the recruitment industry in the next 12 months?
The last 2 years have been magnificent so I’m anticipating a slow down at some stage, however I haven’t experienced that yet. Recently there has been a few companies falling into administration which is the first sign that the business environment is getting more difficult.
What's one piece of advice you'd give to employers?
Spend time getting to know each of your team members and what drives them individually. Consistently check in with them to ensure they are still experiencing the challenge that they wanted and you’re offerring them what they individually want.
