Tell us about your journey as a recruiter
I’ve been with Randstad for almost 11 years, starting as a Graduate in 2016 within the Business Support team, where I focused on Construction and Technology recruitment across Sydney.
Over the years, I’ve recruited across FMCG, Retail, Life Sciences and Manufacturing before moving into leadership. My journey has given me the opportunity to open new offices, lead our Volume & Assessment Centre team, deliver high stakes national outsourcing projects, and lead teams across multiple markets.
Today, I am the State Manager for Business Support, Contact Centre and Volume Recruitment across NSW, leading our Sydney, Parramatta and Wollongong offices. It’s been an incredible journey from Graduate to State Manager, and one of the things I have loved most is how much the role has continued to evolve.
What changes do you see happening in the recruitment industry in the next 12 months?
There’s no doubt we will continue to see a big push towards AI, automation and offshoring across recruitment. Repetitive and administrative tasks will increasingly be automated, and when used well, these tools can absolutely make recruiters more efficient and give us more time to focus on higher value work. However, I think the challenge will be knowing what not to automate. Recruitment is fundamentally a people business, and there are parts of the process where the human element is incredibly important. Understanding motivation, assessing culture fit, showing empathy, challenging a brief or thinking outside the box can’t simply be replicated by technology. For me, the recruiters who will remain most valuable are those who embrace technology without allowing it to replace the quality, local knowledge and genuine human connection that great recruitment is built on.
What's one piece of advice you'd give to employers?
Don’t let the perfect candidate get in the way of a great hire. Some of the best people won’t tick every box on a job description, but they may have the attitude, capability and transferable skills to become exceptional in the role. In a changing market, employers who are willing to look beyond the CV and hire for potential, motivation and cultural fit will often access talent their competitors overlook. Skills can be developed, but finding someone who genuinely wants to be there and can grow with your business is incredibly valuable.
