Tell us about your journey as a recruiter
My recruitment career started in early 2019 joining GRIT Talent as their first hire. I had never really thought of recruitment as a career until a friend who worked for another recruitment company, said she thought I would be great, and now it’s 4 years on and I have loved (almost) every moment of the journey.Over the last 4 years at GRIT, the team has grown to nine employees, upgraded our office and worked with thousands of amazing candidates! I love this job as every day is different, and constantly provides exciting challenges. Also, that feeling when you place the perfect candidate in their dream job will never get old.
What changes do you see happening in the recruitment industry in the next 12 months?
I think the employment industry could be in for a tough time, and in-turn this will bring new challenges that the majority of new recruitment consultants won’t have experienced before, including myself.
With talks of a recession or downturn, we are seeing candidates change their minds on moving roles and choose security and stability in their current role. This means we have an even smaller pool of candidates in an already candidate-short market. I think it’s going to be more important than ever for recruiters to build honest and authentic relationships with candidates to make sure we are seen as trusted advisors.
What's one piece of advice you'd give to employers?
Interviewing is a two-way street. Candidates are interviewing you as much as you are interviewing them. With this in mind, it’s important to discuss your EVP and give plenty of room for candidates to ask questions. Especially now in a market where candidates are getting multiple offers, standing out from the crowd is super important.
Just as important in a candidate short market, is the speed of your recruitment process. Ensuring you deliver fast feedback to your candidates and keep your interview process as simple as possible, will ensure that you don’t loose suitable candidates to other offers.
