Tell us about your journey as a recruiter
I studied advertising/marketing, beginning my career in content creation for a digital agency. I worked my way through both digital and traditional marketing, creative ideation and strategy, working with clients to implement end to end campaigns. Since then, I have transitioned into recruitment, where I have specialised in marketing, creative and product for a little over seven years.
Having first-hand experience with many of the roles I recruit for has helped me speak the same language as my candidates and clients. It’s the human interaction I truly love about recruitment. Forming long-lasting relationships, finding great people and ultimately helping organisation’s grow has been extremely rewarding to me. Recruitment has provided me with an amazing quality life.
I work within the industries I’m passionate about. I’m constantly surrounded by creativity. I’m lucky enough to meet extremely talented and impressive people (candidates, clients and colleagues!), but most of all, the versatility of this job keeps me engaged, it keeps me busy and keeps me interested! I think that’s reflected in my work.
What changes do you see happening in the recruitment industry in the next 12 months?
I think recruitment is going to continue to segment itself into specialist, boutique agencies that offer more tailored services for the clients and more flexibility to their employees. It will continue to pull away from the traditional ‘big agency’ model many of us have become familiar with.
What's one piece of advice you'd give to employers?
Move quickly. The longer it takes, the higher the chance of something unforeseeable happening. Maybe the candidate gets another offer, maybe they get an internal promotion, maybe they win the god-damn lottery! Who knows! Having a focus on time, with a particular push to maintain momentum in the process, will always increase your chances of retaining the candidate. ‘Interest’ is typically a reciprocal feeling. If it’s not felt from both sides, a lot of the time, it isn’t enough.
