Tell us about your journey as a recruiter
I’ve been working in recruitment for around 17 years, starting my career in Manchester before moving to Australia, where I’ve spent much of my career recruiting across sales, engineering and industrial markets.
After years working in the industry, I decided to establish Amicas Consulting in 2024 to offer a more personal, flexible and transparent approach to recruitment. I work closely with businesses to understand what they really need, rather than simply matching a CV to a job description. I particularly enjoy finding strong candidates who may not be actively looking but could be the right fit for an opportunity.
Building my own business has allowed me to focus on the relationships and quality of service that I believe make the biggest difference.
What changes do you see happening in the recruitment industry in the next 12 months?
I think AI and technology will continue to change how recruiters work, particularly around sourcing, administration and candidate screening. However, I don’t believe technology will replace the importance of human relationships, industry knowledge and good judgement.
Employers will more than ever need recruiters who understand their market, can access talent beyond the active job seekers and can properly assess whether someone is the right fit for the role and business. I also think we’ll continue to see a greater emphasis on quality over quantity, with businesses looking for recruitment partners who can genuinely add value rather than simply send through CVs.
What's one piece of advice you'd give to employers?
I think it’s really important for employers to sell the opportunity, not just the job. Candidates want to know about the culture, the team, progression opportunities and what makes the business a great place to work, not just the salary. Interviewing is a two-way street, and the best candidates will be weighing up what the business can offer them just as much as you’re assessing what they can bring.
I’d also encourage employers to be open-minded when it comes to experience. Being clear on what someone actually needs to be good at, versus what they can learn on the job, can open up a much bigger pool of talent. Sometimes the best person for the role isn’t the one who’s done exactly the same job before.
