Tell us about your journey as a recruiter
I’ve been navigating the exciting realm of recruitment since 2007. While my journey didn’t kick off as a Recruiter, my passion for the industry had me fully immersed and hungry to absorb every bit of knowledge. Over the years, I’ve worn various hats within the recruitment industry, actively shaping my skill set and expertise. From roles in Administration, Office Management, and E.A positions to tackling challenges like IT systems and support, database migration, CRM rollouts and partner integrations, whilst also exploring and rolling out training programs, business development and improvement processes—I’ve embraced it all! When the opportune moment arrived, I dived headfirst into the dynamic world of high-volume bulk recruiting for contact centers. Afterward, I excelled in recruiting for Business Support & Operations roles, followed by successfully dabbling in Hospitality recruitment, before ultimately discovering my sweet spot in Sales.
For me personally, as a working mother, I love to challenge myself every day and prove to myself (and my husband) that I can be both, a success within my industry and a superstar mum/wife in the household (although I sometimes fall short on this one when the dishes have piled up for a week!).
What changes do you see happening in the recruitment industry in the next 12 months?
Amidst economic uncertainties, employers may exhibit caution by holding back on hires or implementing corporate cutbacks. However, be assured that job opportunities will persist through the challenges and weather the storm. The rising inflation rate and increasing cost of living are likely to see job-hopping persist or potentially rise, with individuals exploring different opportunities in the pursuit of company stability, better pay and work-life balance. As Millennials take center stage in the job market, skilled professionals are empowered to be discerning in accepting or rejecting offers. The era of enduring lengthy interviews and assessments is fading as jobseekers demand a more efficient and respectful hiring process.
What's one piece of advice you'd give to employers?
Top-notch candidates are swiftly secured, so avoid a prolonged hiring process. Given that candidates might be considering multiple offers, a sluggish hiring process could make them susceptible to competitors. Demonstrate your appreciation for their time, maintain transparency about the role from the outset, and look to prioritise skills over experience. To retain outstanding employees, offer them a salary that reflects today’s financial times and adhere to regular reviews. The expense of hiring and training a new employee, who may not ultimately meet expectations, surpasses the investment in retaining a valuable existing team member.
