Tell us about your journey as a recruiter
My recruitment journey started in 2007 when I, like so many, fell into the industry. I’ve been fortunate enough to work with amazing clients and businesses since then. I love the fact that my role is to develop relationships, connect people and see the outcome of these connections both commercially and personally.
What changes do you see happening in the recruitment industry in the next 12 months?
We’re currently in a unique time within the recruitment market, with low levels of unemployment and high levels of market competition. The next 12 months will likely see changes due to economic and governmental factors. That being said, I believe the time when employers were able to slowly react to talent in the market has well and truly passed. Moving forward, speed and clarity in decision making process, hiring, onboarding and continuity throughout the recruitment process will be essential to secure and retain the right talent.
What's one piece of advice you'd give to employers?
Everyone’s motivation in their career is different, money, security, work life balance, and the list goes on. Taking time to truly understand these motivations throughout your recruitment process is fundamentally important to understanding your potential hire. It’s also helpful to ensure their onboarding, and ongoing development is tailored to them. Showing ongoing interest, and caring about your new hires ‘Why’ will see an increase in engagement and goes a long way to begin to build loyalty and understanding between you and them.
