Tell us about your journey as a recruiter
After working in pathology and diabetes research and then spending over a decade in MedTech sales and leadership, I transitioned to the recruitment industry placing top-tier talent in MedTech and Life Sciences. From Senior Executive to Sales and Marketing, Engineering, Medical IT and Support roles, I specialise in roles that are complex, niche, and often hard to fill.
Spanning >20years in the industry I have experienced the transition from paper advertising to digital, via social media channels such as Seek and LinkedIn, to the current day with the additional help of AI. We are all navigating a new way of doing things and I enjoy keeping up with these new developments in AI as the company continues to grow.
Throughout this journey one thing has never changed; relationships matter and technology will never replace the need for human connection that builds trusting relationships and business partnerships.
What changes do you see happening in the recruitment industry in the next 12 months?
The recruitment industry is undergoing its most significant transformation in a generation, and we’re living it firsthand. Recently acquired by a tech company, we’ve been supercharged by AI-powered capabilities in ways we wouldn’t have dreamed about — making us faster, sharper and more precise than ever.
The most fundamental shift is away from job titles toward capability-based hiring, with far greater weight on adaptability, cross-functional experience, and digital and commercial awareness. AI is automating the administrative heavy-lifting across the board, freeing us to focus on what we do best — the people.
In life sciences, it remains a candidate-driven market — medtech, biotech and diagnostics are persistently talent-short, and Australia is tilting toward harder-to-fill specialist roles in service, regulatory and clinical functions. Layered on top of this is the globalisation of talent, with more remote and hybrid teams across APAC and companies increasingly hiring offshore specialists.
Finally, the hiring window is shrinking fast. Top candidates receive multiple offers quickly. Companies that move decisively and simplify their process will win the talent. Those that don’t will lose candidates on pace, not merit.
What's one piece of advice you'd give to employers?
Across Australia there are more applicants per job but fewer qualified candidates. Quality filtering becomes critical and you need to move fast or lose top candidates. Hire for potential + adaptability, not just experience and build a strong Employer Value Proposition (EVP)
