Tell us about your journey as a recruiter
I started in recruitment in late 2013. Having come from a B2B background, post-uni, recruitment piqued my interest as I believe that I am quite a people person. I love the feeling of helping people with their own careers day in, day out.
What changes do you see happening in the recruitment industry in the next 12 months?
Recruitment has, through COVID and resulting lockdowns, gone too transactional in my opinion. I do hope that this does ease a little and I am seeing positive indications on this already. Face to face client meetings and job registrations, face to face interviews and on-site aftercare are crucial elements to what we do and to ensuring that we provide our clients with the best possible service. With all of the technological advancements, the majority of which have been incredible, I am hoping to see a return of some of the more traditional values in recruitment to complement these.
What's one piece of advice you'd give to employers?
Never take candidates for granted, whether that be candidates currently on your books or candidates you are actively working with on a live process. Communication is key on both fronts. Candidates want to know that they are valued, what lies in store over the coming months and years, both for the company as a whole and for them and their own career progress and professional development within this. The same can be said for both currently staff and potential new staff. Although salary, benefits, work flexibility etc., will always be crucial considerations, it’s also important that we do not lose sight of an employee’s / candidate’s need to feel valued and that their career is on the right path.
